I'd love to be a writer

Perhaps I'm cheating a bit here, because this video isn't new - it first appeared last year on my own now-kaput writing blog, and was also a featured video on Red Room.

Strictly Writing, however, has a lot more readers than my old blog ever had, so I reckon this is worth another run-out. These awkward conversations certainly never seem to go away...

Fabulous! I love the irony that comes through those voices. (I used that software to do a vid myself last year - great fun to do!) Anyway, you're spot on with that conversation - cringe-making.

I love, love, love this!! Laugh out loud funny. And horribly, excruciatingly true...

Also puts me in mind of that story about the writer and the man she meets at the party:

MAN: And what do you do?
WRITER: I'm a novelist.
MAN: Oh, I plan to take up writing
when I retire.
WRITER: What do you do?
MAN: I'm a brain-surgeon.
WRITER: How interesting. I plan to
take up brain surgery when
I retire.

Fantastic - I love it! Although my conversations normally go along the lines of:
"When are you going to publish your book?"
to which the answer is,
"As soon as someone will take it!"
(oh, and when I finish editing it, of course)

That's absolutely hilarious (and also scarily scarily accurate!) Thanks for making me smile (and also want to weep a little...)

100 copies?

Well done.

These videos are fun. You could use them to trial your dialogue for novels too - see you characters in action!

LOL Loved it! As others have said, scarily accurate. I'd like to dedicate it to all those lovely people who have said: "You write short stories - how nice. When are you going to write a proper book?" Grrrh!

I still don't know whether to laugh or cry when someone says 'Oh, if you've written a book, you should get it published'. Like - ER... HEL-LO? D'you think I seriously hadn't thought of that?! Aaaaarrrgggghhh!!!

Am still giggling and cringing in equal measure as I type this :)

Brilliant!

I think we've all been involved in those kind of conversations.

Me: I've been writing stories for women's magazines.
Friend: Really? Oh, hope you are only sending them to the glossy monthly mags, not those horrible weeklies. Wouldn't want to think you were being published by them
Me: Er, well...
