Derek, I know, I was there with my Olivetti sit-up-and-beg typewriter and correcting fluid for the skins that were wrapped around a drum before copying. But it made us much more careful about making mistakes. Now we know that we can erase and spell-check at the touch of a button.

The first thing I bought with money saved up from my first 'proper' job at 16 was a cheap and cheerful typewriter. I felt, as I brought it home on the bus, as if I was stepping into the writers' world.

Oh my goodness... I thought there was no way I was going to watch an 11-minute video (21st-century attention span) but I was completely glued to it.

Great find.
