Is very interesting because as well as the British thing, almost seems to clash with the whole 'delicate author starving in a garrett' thing too.Caroline Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04708248040141519582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-15595572169931058002012-03-22T11:13:44.930+00:002012-03-22T11:13:44.930+00:00BJ, I mentioned possible problems to my editor age...BJ, I mentioned possible problems to my editor ages ago when my husband (a lawyer) flagged it up.

They told me everyhting was cool.

Hmmm. I am wondering if you have seen Sally Quillers post about restrictions on using references to the Olympics in fiction. It sounds like madness but apparently its true!
(http://quillersplace.wordpress.com/2012/03/21/want-to-write-about-the-olympics-this-year-think-again/)BJ Kerrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-72485609942090748272012-03-22T09:54:12.949+00:002012-03-22T09:54:12.949+00:00'To me, ambition is a goal. Like a chiropractor, this very simple and true statement has provided me a sense of direction and relief. For some reason it never occurred to me that my immense discomfort is not, in fact, a sign of impending failure but rather part of the journey. I am ambitious - always have been. The difference between this and the 'ambition' of the apprentices is that for me, ambition is about expansion and extension and aspiring towards excellence. Not trampling over others in order to look good, or 'win'. No wonder ambition has become a dirty word.
SusiexSusie Nott-Bowerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08428000582406338267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-83097940137537763202012-03-21T13:02:21.077+00:002012-03-21T13:02:21.077+00:00Exactly, Gillian. But we shouldn't admit to ambition - unless we appear pushy, or, worse, be seen to fail!Rosy Thttp://www.rosythornton.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-14693104624308355412012-03-21T11:56:53.031+00:002012-03-21T11:56:53.031+00:00I totaly agree, Helen. I don't see it in the business sense though, more a sort of personal writing achievement and aspiring to be the best in the field if that makes sense. Oh, and learning something new every day too. I set myself goals to do that.Gillian McDadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02758782108258244355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-47555175172771665302012-03-21T11:27:51.718+00:002012-03-21T11:27:51.718+00:00My ex-husband would always tell me I wasn't am...My ex-husband would always tell me I wasn't ambitious because I didn't aspire to 'the top'. But I reckon I was more ambitious than him - because my goal was (and is) to enjoy every day, which is a much higher target. So yes, I left my well-paid, well-respected job as a women's editor to freelance, taking a cut in both pay and so-called 'status' - but I never dread going to work these days.Rinnoreply@blogger.com
