I feel very strongly that I suffered for years from the conviction that you are 'born' a writer, and that it's not something that can be taught or learnt (legacy of a traditional degree in English).

Now I completely disagree - I see writing as more of a question of craft or apprenticeship than one of raw talent. I think that has to be good news for most!Emma Haughtonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-65421726955752544122011-01-25T17:43:47.740+00:002011-01-25T17:43:47.740+00:00This comment has been removed by the author.Emma Haughtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06115506016892573369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-35942874308277744902011-01-25T16:03:33.327+00:002011-01-25T16:03:33.327+00:00Crikey, I don't know if this makes me feel bet...Crikey, I don't know if this makes me feel better or worse. I've never seen myself as having grit, determination, perseverance or discipline whatsoever. But I must have if I'm still here, decades on, just finishing book No.5 in the hope that someone, somewhere will eventually GET me and sign me and let me live (and write) happily ever after. Fab post, Emma, thanks! It gave me a VERY distorted picture of how it all worked once I started out...and one that made me feel as though I'd failed miserably WAY too early!Caroline Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04708248040141519582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-22068133857826560672011-01-25T08:00:35.722+00:002011-01-25T08:00:35.722+00:00I still get plenty of rejects - will try to see th...I still get plenty of rejects - will try to see that as a good thing, but I'm not sure I can convince myself.Patsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12263765378083045973noreply@blogger.com
