I think someone else coming up with an idea similiar to ours is an occupational hazard, but it must be truly devastating to have worked on a novel for so long and put so much time and effort in to see a version of it on the shelves at Waterstone screaming "It should have been meeeeee!"

Better luck next time, and a pox on the author who 'stole' your book!Julie Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06546678603569056691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-90221800895569668952009-03-27T14:16:00.000+00:002009-03-27T14:16:00.000+00:00I'm actually shuddering, really this, Becky, becau...I'm actually shuddering, really this, Becky, because it's one of my big fears! Especially when it's badly written.
I came across a book written along the same lines as my (unpublished) non-fiction book. My heart, like yours, sank. In this case, I think the styles are different enough and the basic concept differs enough for my book to have a chance in the market, but doh! it's horrid.
SusiexSusie Nott-Bowerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08428000582406338267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-44293826897229670122009-03-27T13:09:00.000+00:002009-03-27T13:09:00.000+00:00Or rather, selling WELL ;)Or rather, selling WELL ;)Administratorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13894920115299109640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2725342624231517088.post-32195837273114040372009-03-27T13:08:00.000+00:002009-03-27T13:08:00.000+00:00I can so relate to this, Becky. But obviously it does happen - there are only so many ideas around.

Of course, it can have its benefits. Publishers are always looking for more of the same, if something is selling way.

I have over the years, though, felt a twist in my stomach when i've realized an idea of mine isn't as original as i thought, it happened recently.

The trouble is, us humans like to believe we are all unique and special.

Which we are, of course...:)Administratorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13894920115299109640noreply@blogger.com
